Pregnancy is one of the most rewarding times of our lives. We are welcoming a beautiful newborn into this world, that will forever be loved. This time in our lives, us ladies don’t want to be in front of the camera. We are so hard on ourselves, and the hormones don’t help with that either. This is such an important time in our lives, that we often over look it. I have lost count with how many parents book a session for their second child, and mention how sad they are that they didn’t book a session with their first.
You will never be in this exact pregnancy again. You will never look exactly like you do, you will never be this age or carry this child again. Once you deliver, this moment will be gone forever, just a memory that will fade with time. Just like all moments of our lives, we need to document these moments. Not just for our desires, but for our legacy. We need to document this time for our children, for our children’s children!
When to book your maternity session.
Knowing when to book your maternity session is always hard. You want to have that perfect baby bump, but you don’t want to wait too long and miss your session if you deliver early. Every pregnancy is different, so there is no way without visiting with you, and potentially your Doctor, to know exactly when you should schedule your session. Typically, women chose to schedule their maternity session around 30 weeks. I wrote a blog post specifically about this question, you can view that post here.
What do I wear?
I encourage my clients to bring clothing they love to their session. Maternity sessions with jeans, a tube top or bandeau or a favorite button up shirt are always beautiful and personalized to each client. I always offer to my clients a full maternity gown wardrobe to choose from. These gowns range in size small to extra large. If you need additional sizes, just let me know and I can add to my wardrobe.
You will notice I talk about moments a lot. Moments in time that we will never get back, moments that all though we might experience again, but they are never the same. Child birth is one of those moments, a moment that will never be duplicated, replicated or re-enacted. With these sessions, you reserve my time around your due date to photograph your childbirth. I simply ask my clients to give me a call when they are headed to the hospital, and I will be on my way. I will then photograph your birth and and the moments that come soon after. A Fresh 48 session is provided complimentary with this session, and will be provided immediately following your child’s birth.
Fresh 48 Newborn Sessions
Within the first few hours after birth, you can chose to have me visit you in the hospital to photograph this tender, intimate moment with you and your family. These sessions are offered complimentary for all clients who purchase a maternity and newborn photography session.
Newborn photography is so cute!! Capturing those tiny toes and those cute baby snuggles is awesome! The most important consideration with newborn photography is safety. I photograph my newborn sessions using the safest methods in the industry to create artwork that is stunning and beautiful, while never putting the baby in risk for injury.
Although I have a studio in Hutchinson, Minnesota, I do offer lifestyle and in home newborn sessions for the parents who would wish to stay home with baby during those first few weeks after birth, especially during flu season.
I typically shoot with an assistant when I can. If I can’t have my assistant with me, I will ask mom or dad to be near by if I were to need an extra set of hands. I shoot newborn sessions with the babies safety in mind at all times. If I do not feel comfortable with a pose or prop, we will either composite the shot or not attempt it. A composite would be an image where we might add baby into a prop in Photoshop.
